Book Review
The first two Wild Robot books formed a story that felt complete at the end of the second book. Roz builds family and friends on the wild island, then gets taken away. She fights her way back home. Published five years later, The Wild Robot Protects could be a stand alone book.
Book 3 starts a separate story focusing upon environmental impacts to the environment. Roz sees the impact to her island by the poison tide has infected the oceans and is killing off any plants and animals that it comes into contact with. She takes it upon herself to stop the source of the poison and save her family and friends. This is a cautionary tale of what could happen to our animals if we continue to pollute our oceans.
What We Liked
The illustrations are just as delightful as in the first two books. Now out focus is on marine, instead of terrestrial, animals as we meet a new group of friends that help Roz along her quest. We quite enjoyed the scene where the oceans animals were fighting off the source of the poison released into the oceans (trying not to have spoilers about the ending is hard).
What We Disliked
I don’t think I would like this book quite as much if I were not already invested in Roz, Brightbill, and the other island animals from the previous two books. The ending also wrapped itself up a little to easily for me.
Audiobook
We did not listen to the audiobook.
Movie Tie-In
None.
The Verdict
The kids enjoyed this book and were sad that this was the last Wild Robot book.
