The Wild Robot Escapes

The adventure has only just begun…
After learning to thrive on a remote, wild island, robot Roz now finds herself trapped on a farm owned by the Shareef family. Roz’s new life thrusts her into another set of risks, forcing her to survive tornadoes and attacks by wolves. Desperate to escape, Roz begins a journey for freedom through the wilderness and into a bustling city, where she must face the most dangerous creatures yet: human beings. Can she survive the challenges of the civilized world and find her way home to her son, Brightbill, and the island?

Book Review
We read this book directly after finishing The Wild Robot, which is Book 1 of this series. We were not sure whether the plot from the upcoming movie would spill over to include anything from this book. We decided it was better to finish both before the movie comes out.
This book felt like a completion to the story of Roz, Brightbill, and the other animals of the island. Instead of adapting to an island full of animals, Roz now needs to survive on a farm with a human family and other robots around. While she has come to love her new farm family, Roz eventually plans and executes her escape with the help of Brightbill. She has to navigate cities, hide from wolves and RECOs, and figure out how to get from the mainland to her island home.
Along the way, Roz meets her designer, Dr. Malovo. Dr. Malovo finds Roz fascinating because she has surpassed her programming. We were a bit concerned that Roz would never get back to her family and friends when the Dr. was studying her, but never fear. Dr. Molovo helps get Roz back to her island home and into a new, sturdier body with her personality in tact.
What We Liked
We liked that the story picks up where The Wild Robot left off. My youngest really like the Shareef family, who own the farm that Roz becomes a part of. We get to see how Roz was designed to work as she fixes up the Shareef farm. We liked how Roz outwitted the wolves and RECOs while escaping. I liked meeting the robot designer and seeing how Roz and the other robots came to be.
Again, we liked the short chapters that were easy to read from day to day. There are very cute illustrations along the way.
What We Disliked
Nothing. However, we enjoyed the first book more that this one.
Audiobook
We did not listen to the audiobook.
Movie Tie-In
None so far, but I would not be surprised to see a sequel to the 2024 movie the in the future.
The Verdict
Overall, we liked The Wild Robot better than The Wild Robot Escapes. Both have wonderful characters and good adventure, but we prefer the animals of the wild island to the humans and robots of the mainland.
